'Assault of a Princess', a novella by Richard Mousseau
In Mousseau’s latest masterpiece, ‘Assault of a Princess’ a timely and thought provoking adventure ensues as two opposite worlds collide in the harsh northern Ontario winter wilderness. Given the royal couple’s propensity for adventure and family’s propensity for drama and scandal, this tale is a legend in the making. Adding to story ambiance, a wintry blizzard downs the royal plane onto open expansive shoreline wilderness unwittingly setting the stage for trapper and bush savvy Edmond to rescue a sole plane crash survivor princess.
While royal watchers around the globe await news of Kate and Will’s forthcoming child others wager who will be the next heir to the throne.Cocooned in wintry blizzard bush cabin and in time surreal space, readers are taken on a narrative journey while author Mousseau carves new insights on wilderness life and survival, wit and culturalisms. Void of pageantry and decorum for a short time, the two unwitting companions quickly settle into a harmonious relationship. One man’s northern Ontario consciousness is ethno-demographic in harmony with an educated royal heir, for a time, both are free of class distinction and other societal and worldly expectation dramas setting a new precedence for life.
Once royals retrieve their with-child princess, inner sanctum wheels of action cover up and cold secrecy decorum abound. Edmond is summoned to the palace and must navigate and circumvent the ordeal and find his way home. It was perhaps a twist of fate that had brought the two together and the reader is treated to an equally surprising conclusion.
A root for the under-dog and commoner, begs the question of what other long lineage of family secrets and of what social moral values archaic image they intentionally strive to project in vain and to what end? A though provoking read, its characters live on long after first reading making it my personal measure of a true timeless classic, Mousseau’s eloquent novel is simply a good read!
